In a major drug trafficking crackdown, Assam Police seized 11,100 bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup, valued at ₹2 crore, from a vehicle near Damcherra in Cachar district on January 3, 2025. The police acted on credible intelligence about the illegal shipment and intercepted the vehicle transporting the contraband.

The Codeine-based syrup is often misused as a recreational drug, leading to severe health risks and contributing to rising drug abuse problems. This operation is part of Assam Police’s continued efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the state and curb the growing issue of substance abuse.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested, and the case has been handed over to the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for further investigation. The seized goods will be destroyed according to legal procedures, and efforts are underway to trace the suppliers involved in the illegal distribution.
