On January 2, 2025, Mizoram Police made a significant drug bust in the Saitual district, seizing 592 grams of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 17.76 lakh. The operation led to the arrest of a Myanmar national who was allegedly involved in trafficking the illegal substance across borders.
The heroin was concealed in a manner meant to evade detection, but thanks to an intelligence-led operation, the police managed to intercept and seize the drugs before they could be distributed. The arrested individual, identified as a foreign national, is currently in police custody and is being investigated for his role in a larger cross-border drug trafficking network.
The Mizoram Police have committed to intensifying their efforts to curb drug trafficking, especially given the state’s proximity to international borders. This seizure underscores the ongoing issue of drug abuse and trafficking in the region, which law enforcement is working relentlessly to address.
