On January 2, 2025, Mizoram Police successfully rescued 24 exotic animals that were being held in illegal captivity as part of a wildlife trafficking operation. The rescue took place in Aizawl, where police authorities, acting on a tip-off, raided a location and freed the animals, which included rare species often targeted by illegal traders. The police arrested the individuals responsible for the trafficking operation and are conducting further investigations to uncover the full extent of the illegal trade.
The rescued animals were immediately handed over to wildlife protection authorities for rehabilitation, ensuring their safe return to their natural habitat. The police also seized several items that were linked to the trafficking operation, including equipment used for transporting the animals.
Mizoram Police, in collaboration with wildlife authorities, has vowed to strengthen efforts to combat wildlife trafficking in the region, ensuring stricter enforcement of conservation laws. This successful operation highlights the growing commitment of local law enforcement to preserve the state’s biodiversity and protect endangered species from exploitation.
