On January 2, 2025, a team from the Haryana State Enforcement Bureau came under attack by suspected members of the local mining mafia while inspecting illegal mining operations in the Nuh district. During the operation, the officers were surrounded by a group of more than 20 individuals who resorted to violence, hurling stones and other objects at them. As a result, two officers sustained injuries and had to be treated for their wounds.
The Enforcement Bureau team had been carrying out routine checks on illegal mining activities in the region when the attack occurred. The team was inspecting the areas where unauthorized mining operations were believed to be taking place, causing environmental degradation and financial losses to the state.
Despite the attack, the officers managed to retreat and seek immediate medical care. Both injured officers are reported to be in stable condition, but the incident highlights the risks that law enforcement personnel face while tackling organized criminal activities, particularly those associated with illegal mining.
The Haryana Police have launched an investigation into the assault, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the individuals involved in the attack. Local authorities have promised to ramp up security measures in Nuh district and increase enforcement operations against illegal mining.
This attack is the latest in a series of violent incidents related to the illegal mining industry, which continues to pose a challenge to law enforcement agencies in Haryana. The state government has pledged to continue its efforts to dismantle mining syndicates and ensure the safety of its officers.
