The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Goa Police has intensified its operations against drug trafficking, leading to significant seizures and arrests. In a series of coordinated raids, the ANC confiscated narcotics valued at ₹9.2 lakh and apprehended individuals involved in interstate ganja smuggling.
Raids and Seizures:
- Tuem Operation: A local resident, Sachin Haldankar, was arrested near ITI Tuem for possession of Ecstasy and Charas worth ₹7.7 lakh. ANC officers, posing as customers, successfully conducted the sting operation.
- Parra Raid: In Parra, Bardez, a Nigerian national, Joseph Uzor (44), was apprehended with cocaine valued at ₹1.5 lakh. Authorities are investigating Uzor’s background and the legitimacy of his stay in India.
Interstate Ganja Smuggling Network Dismantled:
The ANC achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting Guddu Mochi Ram, the alleged kingpin of an interstate ganja supply network, from Palamu, Jharkhand. This arrest follows the earlier detention of two Jharkhand natives and a Goan in Assonora with 13 kg of ganja. The operation was facilitated through collaboration with the Palamu Police, exemplifying effective inter-state coordination in combating the drug trade.
Detentions at Sunburn Festival:
During the Sunburn Music Festival in Dhargalim, the ANC detained five individuals, including a local from Cuncolim and others from Texas (USA), Hyderabad, Chennai, and Madhya Pradesh, on suspicion of drug consumption. Saliva tests confirmed the presence of banned substances, with four testing positive for ganja and one for cocaine.
Official Statement:
SP Tikam Singh Verma of the ANC stated, “These operations underscore our commitment to eradicating drug trafficking and consumption in Goa. The successful dismantling of the interstate ganja smuggling network and the seizures made are a testament to the dedication and vigilance of our team.”
Public Advisory:
The Goa Police urge citizens and tourists to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to narcotics. Public cooperation is essential in the ongoing efforts to maintain the state’s safety and well-being.
