In light of the upcoming New Year celebrations, Andhra Pradesh’s Director General of Police (DGP), Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, has instructed all district Superintendents of Police (SPs) and Police Commissioners to implement stringent measures to ensure public safety and prevent untoward incidents.
Event organizers hosting New Year parties must obtain prior permission from the police and comply with safety protocols, which include a strict ban on the use of drugs and narcotics. Authorities have reinforced that non-compliance will result in severe penalties, including cancellation of events and legal action.
Public celebrations are permitted only until 1 am, after which any gatherings will be subject to dispersal by law enforcement. To manage large crowds, specific vehicular restrictions will be enforced in high-footfall areas, with alternative traffic arrangements to ensure smooth movement.
The DGP has also emphasized a zero-tolerance policy against drunk driving. Police personnel will be stationed at key checkpoints across cities and towns to conduct breathalyzer tests. Violators will face immediate penalties, including hefty fines and possible imprisonment.
Special task forces have been deployed to monitor suspicious activities and ensure law and order during the celebrations. The public has been urged to cooperate with law enforcement and report any illegal or suspicious activity. These measures reflect the state’s commitment to creating a safe environment for welcoming the New Year.
