West Bengal Director General of Police (DGP) Manoj Malviya has issued a stern warning against the misuse of the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh for political or social exploitation. Amid rising tensions along the India-Bangladesh border, the DGP emphasized the state’s commitment to maintaining peace and security without drawing unnecessary attention to its operations.
The DGP addressed the media, stating that the police are diligently monitoring the situation to prevent any unlawful activities that could arise due to the crisis in Bangladesh. He highlighted the importance of remaining vigilant against misinformation and exploitation of the situation by anti-social elements.
“We are doing our job quietly and effectively. Any attempt to exploit the situation will be dealt with strictly,” the DGP asserted.
The police, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), have intensified patrolling and surveillance along the border areas. This includes stepping up security measures to curb illegal migration and smuggling, which often escalate during periods of instability in the neighboring country.
The DGP also urged the public to report any suspicious activities and assured that the authorities are equipped to handle emerging challenges.
The police have taken proactive steps to counter false narratives that could incite unrest. Social media platforms are being closely monitored to detect and prevent the spread of inflammatory or misleading content.
“We urge people to verify information before sharing it. Any attempt to spread rumors will face strict legal action,” the DGP added.
The Bangladesh crisis, marked by political and social turmoil, has raised concerns over potential spillover effects into Indian border states like West Bengal. The state’s proactive approach is seen as a measure to prevent these issues from affecting its security and harmony.
The DGP concluded by appealing for public cooperation in ensuring peace and stability. He highlighted that the police are committed to upholding law and order while addressing the challenges posed by the regional crisis.
