In a major breakthrough, Delhi Police have arrested two notorious criminals involved in over 80 cases of robberies after an encounter in the capital. The accused, who were on the radar of law enforcement for a long time, were involved in a spate of armed robberies across the city.

The encounter took place near the Paharganj area late last night when a team of special cell officers spotted the suspects. Upon being signaled to stop, the accused opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate in self-defense. After a brief exchange of gunfire, both suspects were apprehended, sustaining minor injuries.

“Both of the accused are history-sheeters and have been involved in more than 80 cases of robbery, including theft, snatching, and vehicle theft,” said DCP (Special Cell) Sanjay Sharma.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Ramesh Kumar and Rajesh Yadav, both residents of Haryana. Police say they were part of a well-organized gang operating in Delhi-NCR, targeting businesses, residential areas, and travelers.

“These criminals have been under surveillance for several months. They used sophisticated weapons and tactics to commit their crimes. Their arrest is a major success for the city police,” DCP Sharma added.

Investigators are now trying to link the arrested suspects to several other ongoing cases of robbery and dacoity reported in Delhi in the past year. Police believe that the duo was actively involved in planning and executing these crimes.

Police have recovered several stolen items, including cash, mobile phones, and weapons from their possession. Efforts are underway to trace the remaining members of their gang. The two have been remanded to police custody for further investigation.

Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, especially in crime-prone areas. “We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of Delhi’s residents,” DCP Sharma said.

The arrests come as a major relief to the residents of Delhi, who have been grappling with rising incidents of robberies. Police vow to intensify their crackdown on such criminal elements to ensure a safer environment.
