Puducherry has been grappling with one of its heaviest rainfall spells in the past three decades, triggered by Cyclone Fengal. The region has been witnessing widespread flooding, disrupting normal life and leaving many areas submerged. Authorities are working around the clock to manage the situation, with the police playing a crucial role in ensuring public safety and relief efforts.

The cyclone made landfall on Sunday, leading to heavy downpours that continued for several days. Puducherry recorded its highest rainfall in 30 years, with many low-lying areas inundated, causing severe waterlogging and cutting off several neighborhoods. The local administration has been on high alert, coordinating with various agencies to tackle the flooding crisis.

In response to the flood-like situation, Puducherry Police have stepped up their operations. They have been actively involved in evacuating stranded residents, clearing roads, and ensuring the smooth movement of rescue and relief teams. Police personnel have also set up control rooms and helplines, assisting with disaster response efforts, distributing essential supplies, and coordinating with local authorities to ensure affected families receive food, medical aid, and shelter.

“The police are not just law enforcers but also first responders during such emergencies,” said the Puducherry Police Commissioner. “Their efforts in evacuating people, regulating traffic, and ensuring the distribution of essential supplies have been commendable.”

The administration, along with the police, has deployed boats, relief teams, and rescue operations to help those stranded in flooded areas. Several temporary shelters have been set up, and the government has assured affected residents of immediate relief and rehabilitation.
