In a significant breakthrough, security forces apprehended two active cadres of the NSCN (IM) involved in extortion activities in Changlang district. The operation, conducted during the early hours of December 26, 2024, was part of ongoing efforts to curb insurgency and maintain peace in the region.

The operation was jointly carried out by the Arunachal Pradesh Police and paramilitary forces based on specific intelligence inputs. The cadres were intercepted during their attempt to extort money from local businesses and individuals.

Security officials recovered incriminating evidence from the apprehended cadres, including extortion letters, communication devices, and cash believed to be extorted from victims. A senior police officer involved in the operation stated, “The apprehension of these cadres marks a significant step in dismantling the extortion network of NSCN (IM) in the region. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the people.”

The NSCN (IM), an insurgent group operating in parts of Arunachal Pradesh and neighboring Nagaland, has long been involved in illegal activities such as extortion and smuggling to fund its operations. This arrest is seen as a major blow to their activities in Changlang and surrounding areas.

The two apprehended individuals are currently in custody and being interrogated for further details on their operations and connections. The authorities have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities and promised to maintain a strong vigil in sensitive areas.

Local residents have expressed relief at the success of the operation, which they believe will discourage further insurgent activities in the area.
