Delhi Assembly elections approach, the Delhi Police have carried out a major reshuffle of key officers, aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of law enforcement and maintaining law and order during the election period.
In a significant move, 15 senior IPS officers have been transferred, with new roles assigned to key districts, including those identified as election-sensitive areas. The reshuffle includes the transfer of District Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), adding fresh leadership to critical regions like Northeast Delhi, West Delhi, and South Delhi.
Officials say the reshuffling is intended to bring new perspectives and ensure better coordination among police forces to ensure smooth and peaceful elections. The decision comes after concerns were raised about the need for stronger policing and a more vigilant approach in areas with a history of electoral disturbances.
Special emphasis has been placed on maintaining strict security around sensitive locations such as polling stations and ensuring adequate deployment of personnel to handle any law and order challenges. The new officers will work closely with the Election Commission to ensure free and fair elections in the capital.
Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana has directed all units to adopt proactive strategies to curb any attempts at electoral malpractices and ensure a secure environment for voters. The reshuffle aims to strengthen police presence and quicken response times in the run-up to polling day.
With over 1.5 lakh personnel expected to be deployed, the focus remains on preventing any attempts of violence, voter intimidation, and the misuse of election-related processes.
