A recent probe into cyber scams in Pune has uncovered a growing trend of mule accounts being bought and sold like commodities on social media platforms.

Mule accounts—accounts typically used to funnel illicit funds—are being traded openly on social media, allowing scammers to manipulate and transfer money illegally. Investigators found numerous accounts, which were advertised for sale or lease, often targeting unsuspecting individuals who are unaware of their misuse. These accounts are frequently used for money laundering and fraudulent activities.

The Pune Cyber Cell has intensified its efforts to identify those involved in these scams, focusing on social media platforms where the transactions occur. Authorities warn individuals to avoid engaging with such offers, as they may become unwitting participants in cybercriminal activities.

The Cyber Cell is now tracking suspicious accounts and has issued alerts to banks and financial institutions to strengthen their security protocols. Law enforcement agencies are coordinating with tech companies to monitor and block fraudulent accounts, aiming to disrupt the criminal networks operating in the region.
