In a carefully orchestrated operation, Nandanvan police in Nagpur successfully apprehended three individuals involved in drug trafficking and the illegal possession of firearms. The raid, conducted early Monday morning at Gharkul, opposite NIT Quarters in Venkatesh Nagar, resulted in the seizure of contraband and weapons worth ₹12.1 lakh.
The Operation
Acting on a tip-off, the police set up a trap at the target location between 3:45 AM and 7:15 AM. The operation led to the arrest of:
- Raju Giri alias Dupendra Girigosavi (37): A resident of Bandhu Nagar, Zingabai Takli.
- Sahil Solanke (28): Residing in Venkatesh Nagar, Nandanvan, with a history of four criminal cases, including theft, housebreaking, molestation, and intimidation.
- Bhavik Mahajan (26): A wanted individual implicated in prior cases of rioting, murder, and possession of illegal weapons.
Items Seized
During the raid, the following items were confiscated:
- 59 grams of Mephedrone (MD powder), a powerful narcotic.
- A country-made pistol.
- Three mobile phones.
- A car used in the illicit activities.
The total value of the seized contraband and assets was estimated at ₹12.1 lakh.
Legal Proceedings
The case has been registered under multiple legal provisions, including:
- NDPS Act: Sections 8(a), 22(a), and 29.
- Arms Act: Sections 3 and 25.
- Maharashtra Police Act (MAPOKA): Section 135.
