The NIA, in collaboration with the Assam Special Task Force (STF), conducted raids across several locations in Goalpara, leading to the arrest of these suspects involved in money laundering for JEM.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested four individuals in Assam’s Goalpara district in connection with suspected links to the Pakistan-based terrorist organization, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM). The arrested suspects were apprehended during night raids conducted by the NIA, alongside Assam’s Special Task Force (STF), in areas including Hansilapara, Barpahar, Balbala, and Tukde. The four arrested individuals have been identified as Joynal Abedin, Shahanur Alam, Abu Taleb, and Shahanur Islam. The suspects are allegedly involved in a larger operation involving JEM’s money laundering activities in India.
Sources from the Assam police revealed that these suspects were part of an underground network working to fund JEM operations through illicit financial channels. This operation is linked to the arrest of Mufti Sheikh Sultan Salludin Ayubi, a key figure who was detained earlier by the NIA in Delhi for his involvement in money laundering for JEM. Abedin, one of the arrested individuals, is reportedly a cleric at a local mosque, suggesting that religious institutions may be exploited in the process of radicalization and financial support for terrorism.
The NIA’s recent raids also targeted 19 locations across India, including several sites in Assam, aiming to dismantle terror networks connected to JEM. These operations are part of a continuing effort by Indian authorities to curb the spread of extremist ideologies and radicalize youth in vulnerable regions. The NIA’s investigation focuses not only on money laundering but also on identifying and dismantling modules that seek to promote violent ideologies.
The operation, which has extended across various regions, also involves multiple states such as Anantnag, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. The ongoing raids are designed to stop further recruitment efforts and prevent the spread of radicalized activities that could destabilize national security. With heightened vigilance, the NIA is working tirelessly to counter terrorist financing, preventing these groups from achieving their destructive goals.
As authorities continue to root out terrorist networks across the country, these arrests serve as a critical reminder of the ongoing threat posed by international terror organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammed and the importance of continuous law enforcement efforts in safeguarding India’s security.
