In a significant crackdown on drug-related crimes, the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Maheshwaram Zone, in coordination with the Adibatla Police, successfully arrested a suspected drug peddler involved in transporting and selling illegal substances. The suspect, Romi Bharath Kalyani, a 40-year-old man from Bandra West, Mumbai, was apprehended with 1.5 kilograms of Ganja and 50 grams of OG Khush, valued at around Rs. 51,000.

Romi, who has a long history of involvement in drug-related offenses, had returned to India after studying abroad and initially worked in real estate. However, his return to the drug trade saw him forming connections with other dealers, including a supplier named “Tobi” from Kerala. Romi’s criminal record includes multiple arrests, including a 2004 drug dealing case, an assault case in 2013, and a more recent 2023 arrest in Goa for similar charges.

The operation, initiated on October 3, 2024, followed intelligence gathered by the police about Romi’s illicit activities. He was arrested in the Bonguloor area, where the drugs were seized. Investigations are now focused on tracking down “Tobi,” the Kerala-based supplier, as authorities continue their efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks in the region.

This arrest highlights the ongoing commitment of the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate under the leadership of Shri G. Sudheer Babu, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, and K. Muralidhar, DCP, SOT, LB Nagar – Maheshwaram, in their fight against drug trafficking. The police are urging citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drugs in their localities.
