Accident
The Karnataka police’s first case under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) highlights a tragic incident in Hassan district. Allegedly, Sagar from Halebeedu drove recklessly, resulting in their vehicle plunging off a bridge near Seege Gate. Despite Ravi and Sagar escaping with the help of airbags, Ravi’s mother-in-law, seated in the back, sustained severe head injuries and tragically succumbed to them upon reaching the hospital.
Accident
The incident prompted Ravi H S to file a complaint, leading the police to register a case under sections 106 (death by negligence) and 281 (rash and negligent driving) of the BNS. This new penal code, replacing the colonial-era Indian Penal Code, came into effect on Monday, marking a significant shift in legal framework aimed at ensuring accountability and justice in such cases of negligence on the road.
